3D wall paper fitting method with overlay
We havent had the time to lay down a full how to template on the
1/ have the wall clean and neat, glue applied everywhere. Using an adequate brush
2=/ you will need a soft plastic wallpaper spatula for this part, 15 cm wide ideally.
You need to lay the first panel marked as "P1" on the left of the wall, it must be glued as well. That's the starting point. You should have extra length top, better, left and right so keep about 2 cm extra over the the top and same on the left of the panel, lay it straight all the way down, all flush without any twist or torc on the panel .
3/ use a plastic spatula to push the air out when or if there are any. By gradually working your way from top left to right and downwards to left and right again in zig wagging pattern.
4/ you are now ready for the second panel. Now here is the difference, you can try to NOT apply the glue inside the panel, just use the glue from the wall for as long as it is spreaded generously everywhere evenly.
Have your second panel rolled ready to be laid up.
Make you match exactly the marks. The 2 black lines must be matching exactly on the top left on each panel, but also level up the top horizontal lines of each panel where the print starts.
Then flatten the horizontal part of the top print and start to gradually roll down the wallpaper making sure the same length of overlay remains the same all the way down and insuring the designs of each panels are matching.
Adjusting as you go along, no excessive tension is needed.
If it is then you need to go back up again a bit higher and start to readjust from above.
5/ once again start to squeeze the air and excess of glue from top left corner to the right, then down left again going to the right in zig zags.
6/ repeat the same method until all panels are laid on the wall, flat with no more air or excess of glue.
7/ when all the wallpaper is perfectly fitted the trimming can start.
Do the outer sides first. Top left to right, then right, bottom right to left, then left.
8 / the stitching part now.
At this point you should have an approximately 2 cm overlay between each panels.
Place the spatula flat against the wallpaper vertically and angle it at 45 degrees.
Place your knife blade against the spatula, parallel right in the middle of the overlay.
You should have as much length on the left and right of each overlay ( about 1 cm).
And you should always use the sharpest possible blade, if the operation isn't going smooth it's because it probably getting blunt and need to be replaced.
Usually 1 blade last 2 stitches if it hasn't been against very abrasive materials.
Now that your blade and spatula are in place, slowly and firmly cut all the way down keeping your blade in the centre.
The cut must be clean.
Stop and replace the blade if it catching the fibre on the way down.
9/ once the whole height of the panel has been cut, you can remove the 2 stripes of the trim
The outer one, then gently pull back the left hand side of the right panel and peel off the excess trimmed.
Then push back onto the wall the left hand side of the right panel
10/ at that point bother panel should be absolutely seamless.
Gently use the spatula to flatten the panels next to each other and remove the excess of the glue.
Repeat the same method to stitch all common panels.
11/ all the 3d wallpaper is ready, making sure all outer sides are properly glued the excess can be cleaned off and let to dry.
